ASD, Autism and Asperger's
What is ASD?
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a cognitive condition that affects behaviour, learning and socialisation. ASD is sometimes referred to as Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), as the disorder involves a delay or immaturity in neurological development. The most common disorders within the Autism Spectrum are Asperger Syndrome and Autism.
Does my child have ASD?
Autistic children and those on the spectrum can present with a range of varying symptoms. ASD and autism signs can include:
- Social issues such as difficulty communicating – including verbal and nonverbal communication
- Problems interacting with others – difficulty following social cues
- Repetitive behaviour
- Narrow interests
How can Learning Connections help with ASD
Children on the autistic spectrum, whilst having specific behavioural needs also have immaturities in sensory motor and primitive reflex maturation. It is our experience that nutritional and biochemical factors are major influences on the behaviour and function of children on the autistic spectrum. Learning Connections performs an extensive assessment of your child in a friendly, one-on-one setting to identify the underlying causes of their social or behavioural issues and any other difficulties they may be having.
When we have identified the particular developmental immaturities your child is experiencing, we then provide you with a customised home program that is unique to your child. The program is specifically designed to strengthen the areas your child has most difficulty with and includes not only activities for children with autism, ASD or other behavioural issues, but also dietary advice. For children on the Autistic Spectrum, Learning Connections' programs address the following issues:- Attention
- Learning
- Self Confidence
- Assertiveness
- Self Control
- Behaviour
- Social Skills
- Anxiety
You are free to contact us with any questions you have about implementation of the program and we will check back and monitor your child’s progress approximately two months from our initial consultation.
If you would like more information about how we can help your child with ASD or any other problems they may be having, please call or email us.
