    What is ADD/ADHD?

Both Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are behavioural conditions that affect children's ability to pay attention and focus. ADD is considered to be an outdated term and is now considered the inattentive-type ADHD. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a condition where a child cannot focus or sit still for reasonable amounts of time and often the child is impulsive or hyperactive – this may also affect a child's memory. Children with ADHD exhibit a more extreme amount of distraction, impulsivity and lost focus than most children.

    Does my child have ADD/ADHD?

    ADHD symptoms include:

    • Inattention – having difficulty paying attention or focusing on a task
    • Impulsivity – seemingly unable to control their impulses at times, talking out of turn, inability to wait for their turn
    • Overactivity – having what seems like extreme amounts of energy and being fidgety and unable to sit still

At Learning Connections, we do not diagnose children because certain behavioural and learning conditions overlap with others. For example, the diagnosis of ADD/ADHD is given to many children without considering that their symptoms are also symptoms of:

and that these difficulties may coexist with and contribute to attention disorders. If a child has one or more of the above problems, Learning Connections can help.

How can Learning Connections help with attention problems?

Attention disorders are frequently at the core of a child’s learning difficulties. In our decades of experience, nutritional or biochemical issues are the major triggers in the majority of children seen at Learning Connections.

Learning Connections performs an extensive assessment of your child in a friendly, one-on-one setting to determine the underlying causes of their behavioural problems and any other difficulties they may be having. When we have identified the particular developmental immaturities your child is experiencing, we then provide you with a customised home program that is unique to your child. The program is specifically designed to strengthen the areas your child has most difficulty with and includes not only activities, but also dietary advice.

Learning Connections' programs can also assist those children on medication for their ADHD. We can assist children with Attention Disorders to improve:

    • Concentration
    • Attention
    • Memory
    • Learning
    • Self Control and to reduce
    • Stress and Frustration
    • Anxiety and Fear

You are free to contact us with any questions you have about implementation of the program and we will check back and monitor your child’s progress approximately two months from our initial consultation

If you would like more information about how we can help your child with ADHD or any other problems they may be having, please call or email us.
