Information Sessions
Learning Connections provides information sessions for both parents and educators. The sessions cover the connection between early childhood development and learning capabilities and outcomes for children. In order for children to get the most from school the first thing they will need to be able to do is to sit in a chair, listen and follow directions.
Teachers report that unless a child can do this, they will find it difficult to learn. Children also need to have settled behaviour, the ability to socialise in groups with peers (not just with older or younger children), to communicate with mature language skills and to engage with drawing and books. If a child is experiencing difficulty with any of the above, they may have some developmental immaturities.
Even bright children can have these developmental immaturities. These bright children are often able to develop a range of coping strategies, but as they progress through the school system and as the work gets harder, their strategies often stop working (frequently around year three).
There are simple things you can do to help progress your child’s development and establish a strong foundation of motor, sensory-motor and language skills to have them ready for the classroom.
Come to an information session to find out about:
- How children develop the processing skills necessary for successful learning
- Behaviours and what is behind them?
- The impact of foods on behaviour – certain foods can have a big impact on listening, paying attention, learning and behaviour
- How you can help your child at home and at school!
