Why Learning Connections

  • Why Choose Learning Connections?

In our experience there are always many contributing factors involved in children’s learning and behaviour issues. With years of experience we have found that many people and professionals feel the need to put labels on children in order to ‘manage’ them. We don’t believe that children come off a factory line – every child is different and a one-size-fits-all approach for dealing with their particular issue may not be the most effective solution.

Often many symptoms of certain behavioural or learning difficulties overlap. For example attention disorders and auditory processing immaturities share many similar symptoms. Rather than focusing on these symptoms – that could be one of several 'disorders' – we focus on the core issues behind these symptoms. Unlike many other professionals our focus is not restricted to one particular field of study.

With our decades of experience we have seen that an issue a child presents with may not be as straightforward as it seems and it may have several contributing factors. As a result, we take many underlying causes into account when we treat a child. This way we know we are giving them the range of treatment they need in order to achieve their best possible outcome.

We take a broad approach and look at a range of areas until we have identified each possible factor contributing to the child’s difficulties.

Although specialists do fantastic work with children, they can only provide treatment within their specialising area. This is often restrictive for what many children actually need. Many specialists refer parents to Learning Connections so that we can help the child with their developmental delays. This is because they understand that Learning Connections activities help address core issues. They then return to their specialist and continue to be treated. This often means the specialist therapy or tutoring will be more effective.

For example, we have treated children who have been going to speech therapists for years without any success. Once they were assessed and treated by us, their speech issues were able to be effectively addressed by a speech specialist. This is because we treat the core developmental issues that children are facing and understand that these are the foundation to all other areas of their lives.
