  • Our story

Learning Connections provides specially tailored programs to help children learn in the best way for them. We also provide unique professional development programs for teachers and educators to learn practical ways in which to get the most out of their teaching experience.

What we do for parents and carers

Learning Connections has been helping parents and carers from the start. Every child is unique – so each parent and carer comes to us with a different worry or concern. However, with our depth of knowledge and an abundance of experience, we are able to ensure that parents and carers walk away happy with the improvements their children make.

Because we treat issues from the core and not just their symptoms, we are able to treat behavioural and learning difficulties with equal success. We take a holistic approach to each child’s unique circumstances and develop a specially tailored program that will help them to work on the particular areas in which they most need attention.

Read what parents and carers have to say about our programs…

"I would like to express the success my son is having since attending the Learning Connections Centre. During Year 2 his teacher approached me as he was experiencing difficulties at school. He had poor social skills; low self-esteem and the teacher said he wasn't learning or hearing properly.

After having him tested by six professionals we were still not seeing any changes in his learning and behaviour. He was a time bomb to live with. He commenced the Learning Connections program and has made huge progress in 8 months. He is a different child. He is succeeding in school, his self-esteem is very high and he is now happy and a delight to live with as we can now reason with him.

Sound Therapy was commenced 2 months ago and there has been very good improvement in handwriting. His spelling age has improved by 2 years in just 2 months. He now grasps new concepts more readily."
    (Jill, Parent)

My daughter did the Learning Connections program for her Learning Difficulties. It was extremely successful for her, and has made an enormous difference, not only to her schooling, but to her belief in herself, and her confidence. She no longer believes she is ‘stupid’, and knows that she is quite smart. It has been fantastic watching her blossom, especially as she has stepped into high school so well.

She went from just muddling through (while thinking every other child in the class was smarter than her) in Grade 7, to her first year of high school last year, where she received an Academic Merit award based on her results. I have been meaning to give you this fantastic feedback for a while now, as I’m sure it will be encouraging for everyone involved in the program. I wish I had known about Learning Connections a long time ago, so that we could have addressed some of her issues much earlier. Thank you all so much for your efforts.
    (Glenda, Parent)

My son had all the signs of a child who would be labeled ADHD and if it wasn’t for Learning Connections I’m sure he would be on medication now. As he was heading into Year 8 we had an intellectual assessment done on him as we thought he would need to go to a small school that could assist him with extra learning help.

Well today my son goes to a large school and is in Year 11 and is doing OP subjects so he can become a Police Officer. Over the time he was with Learning Connections he improved immensely and with each parent teacher interview I was told the same thing that he was a very polite and bright student but could do better (and this was after getting "C"s and "B"s on his report!), after I explained to each teacher how he had struggled through primary school they were just blown away just like I am today.

Thank you so much, I always recommend your centre to people I meet if their child has attention and learning problems.
    (Stacey, Parent)

"Thank you again for this morning. For the first time in a while we feel like someone really understands our son’s difficulties and has given us a way to try improve these. We are really grateful for your patience this morning with him and for teaching us so much along the way. We look forward to continuing to work with you."

    What we do for teachers

Over the years we have found that it is not only parents who need help dealing with children that may be falling behind or who present more difficult behaviours. For 40 years we have been providing unique training programs that equip teachers with all the knowledge and tools they need to help all children – and particularly those who are struggling – in the classroom.

Read what teachers say about our programs...

"I have been teaching Kindergarten children for over 20 years and every year, we see children whose skills aren't quite developed. The Learning Connections Program is a wonderful way to help all the children in the group. It is very easy to incorporate the games and activities into the daily program and to then increase the complexity as the children's skill levels develop. The children find it great fun and are keen to be involved."
    (Lindy, Teacher, Qld)

"The Learning Connections program offers teacher, students and parents the ability to make changes immediately that result in significant benefits for all.
    (Tania, Teacher, Melbourne)

"I started using the Learning Connections School Program with my Year 2 Class in 1999 – I have used it with every class since then with the same extraordinary results. I have documented improvements in reading ages far outside the "normal range". I have seen amazing improvements in behaviour i.e. the ability to sit still, to listen, to concentrate and, most importantly, to interact with others. I will always do the Learning Connections School Program with my class."

"After our morning sessions with the Learning Connections School Program the children are ready for work and concentrate with ease. It’s a great program and the kids just love it. The difference it makes is amazing. As teachers we can definitely see that an improvement in the exercises is mirrored by an improvement in some area of class work. This has been noted too many times to be deemed accidental. Learning Connections gives each child the opportunity to realise their true potential."

"So powerful, so useful, so simple but complex. Your ability to explain the challenges children experience and the way they need to solve them is so simple, clear and manageable for a classroom teacher. The confidence you have given me to tackle my sunbeams is immense. I will do such an improved job. The power is in its simplicity, always considering cost, safety etc and it’s fun!"

"A program that makes a difference to children but is not cost/time prohibitive."

"We have started doing it [Learning Connections Program] everyday for approximately 15 mins and definitely notice the difference when we don’t do it in the morning."
    (Jellina, Teacher, Qld)

"We own eight child care centres across Queensland and we have made a commitment to train our educators in Learning Connections after seeing the enormous benefits to the children in our care. To date we have trained our Early Childhood Teachers and Educational Leaders (30 educators in total) with the intention to train ALL educators ensuring that everyone understands the importance of movement within the Early Childhood Sector.

It may be argued that one person could complete the training and return to the service to train other educators however until you sit with and hear Maureen and Dianne explain the programme and their anecdotal evidence with their relentless passion and enthusiasm then you never truly understand the importance of this work. The course provides a rich hands-on approach which ensures educators have clear and achievable programmes to implement the moment they return to the service."

"Across the services we have seen huge improvements in the children's ability to concentrate, their balance and spatial skills, their drawing and painting as well as their social skills. We value the current research as a way to assist children holistically and Learning Connections helps bridge the gaps that are simply not taught within the Diploma of Childcare and in some Bachelor courses. Once again I sincerely thank Learning Connections for all their invaluable work."

"Learning Connections is a valuable resource for parents, teachers, preservice teachers and anyone who dealing with children with learning difficulties, behaviour problems and attention disorders. From my perspective as a University lecturer in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education and given the decreased involvement of children in physical activity and the rising incidence of obesity and overuse of technology, it is essential that we have a research-based organisation, such as Learning Connections, available to assist children particularly who have missed out on vital Fundamental Movement Skills and do not participate in much physical activity."

"I did all their courses when I first started teaching. They are absolutely brilliant and wonderful people. Their techniques work! Started as a program to help children with reading and as they researched and developed discovered so many other benefits. Brilliant!"

"The Learning Connections Program was very successful for my Prep class. The parents could see the changes. It awakened the class to cope with the curriculum. After an eight week term of using the Learning Connections School Program every child knew from 20-100 sight words!"

"I attended the workshop during the last school holidays and was very impressed. I have been implementing the program only for just over a week and am already finding improvements in reading, concentration and physical co-ordination."

    Our Purpose

It seems that it is harder than ever in this day and age to be a child. With the school curriculum demanding more of children (and teachers) at a younger age, technology encroaching on the all-important imaginative and active play time and more modifications and additives being put into our food, it’s no wonder children’s physical and mental health is suffering.

Our goal is to turn that all around. We want to help people bring up happy and healthy young children who are engaged and ready to learn. We’re here to help. We know that getting help for a child can be a very overwhelming process, that’s why we want to take the stress out of it for you. We have done the research and the practice; we can help you navigate this confusing road. We want you to have the healthiest and happiest children in your life and we know we can help you achieve this.

If you want to see how we can help you check out our teachers or parents pages. If you are as passionate as we are about raising healthy kids, please get in touch, or you can make a donation at our Everyday hero page.

    We love what we do

We are passionate about providing the best possible service to help children achieve their best possible results, both academically and in life. We love seeing the transformations of children who undertake our programs and have so many stories of success. View our blog.
